About Me

I’m Andy Johnson, a creative producer and filmmaker based in Ōtautahi Christchurch.

I’ve spent more than 20 years working across film, television, advertising, branded content and education in New Zealand and internationally. My career has taken me from post-production and visual effects in Wellington and London to factual television at the BBC, commercial filmmaking in Shanghai, creative agency work in Christchurch and, most recently, teaching at the New Zealand Broadcasting School.

I’m a hands-on filmmaker, but my strengths extend well beyond production. I enjoy developing ideas, understanding audiences, working with clients and subject-matter experts, managing projects and finding creative ways to communicate stories and complex information.

I can take a project from initial conversations, research and concept development through scripting, directing and production to editing, motion graphics and final delivery. I’m equally comfortable working collaboratively as part of a wider creative, communications or marketing team.

At the heart of my work is communication. I’m naturally curious, enjoy meeting people and asking questions, and I'm particularly good at taking complex ideas and turning them into stories that are clear, engaging and human.

My experience in education has added another dimension to this, strengthening my skills in communication, leadership, facilitation, project management and mentoring.

I bring a calm, friendly and collaborative approach to my work, backed by extensive creative and technical experience and a genuine enthusiasm for making great work.
